Secada Square

Kalamata

Located on the ground floor of a 1960s apartment building, Secada Square is a new architectural addition to Kalamata's central square. Spread over three levels, it is organised into two seating areas and a modern playground on the upper floor.

The main objective of the architectural study was to position the bar as far forward as possible, creating two separate zones: one for customer service and one for staff circulation. All secondary functions were moved to the rear.

The elevation of the two levels in the living room clearly defines the movement within the space while ensuring comfortable access to the upper floor, where the children's play area is located, and to the basement, where the sanitary facilities are located. This access is via the metal staircase, which serves as a structural and aesthetic focal point. The dominant material is tiles featuring Carlo Scarpa's iconic pattern from the Olivetti Showroom in Venice. These run through the ground and first floors, creating a unified geometric base that elegantly interacts with the wooden cladding and warm white colour palette.
