Cinapos
Thissio
The restaurant is located in the heart of Athens, in the Thissio area, housed in an iconic building with a rich history. In the past, the building served as King Otto’s stables, later becoming the first café in the area. Its history is deeply intertwined with the neighborhood and its residents, as it also functioned as a public school for many years.
The revival of the space and the restoration of its authenticity were the architects’ main challenges. Their goal was to create a welcoming, familiar, and warm environment that evokes the feeling of a Sunday family gathering. They wanted visitors to feel at home, enjoying their meals in a setting that carries a nostalgic touch from the past. In their pursuit of the perfect balance between old and new, they began by “stripping down” the building.
They removed previous interventions and preserved as many of its original features as possible. This process allowed them to create a clean canvas upon which their interventions were meticulous.
