Two cave houses in Paros

In 2018, long before the advent of cave houses in Cyclades and specifically in Paros, Suma Architects took over the design of a complex of two houses on a plot with a panoramic view of the bay and the port of Parikia.

Apart from the view, the plot faced the intense pressure from the northwest winds but also a strongly sloping and inward-facing relief, which made really challenging the emplacement of two high-standard houses at least in terms of privacy. After on-site observation of the wind, light and view, we opted for the solution of 2 cave houses as the most advantageous and environmentally friendly. The width of the plot helped towards this choice.

The right orientation was sought as the eye glimpse towards Antiparos and the port were almost magnetic. Different levels were chosen so that the buildings fit perfectly into the natural terrain. The facades of the buildings were formed without angles, following the natural relief, while in the middle there is tension with the beak delimiting the space of each residence.
