Calma Villas

Ios

The Calma Villas Ios complex is located in Kampos village, near the port of Ios, one of the greek cycladic islands. The complex consists of three ground level stone villas, each of which accommodates up to six people and has its own private swimming pool. The initial architectural study of the villas, as well as the blueprints needed for the construction permit, were conducted by Margarita Zakheou, civil engineer.

Sorites Architects undertook the project when the outer walls and open air terraces had already been build.

With the owners’ intention of using the villas for tourist purposes, the architects envisioned spaces of comfort, serenity, functional simplicity and discrete luxury, that would manifest in the aesthetic quality of the design and the materials used. The landscape around the villas inspired them on the materials, colors and textures they chose. Their canvas was the earthy colors of local stone, fairfaced concrete and cement mortar, the colors of wood and reeds, the blue-green of the Aegean sea and the pale blue of the Greek sky, the gray-green of lavender and olive trees.
