Panorama boutique hotel is situated at the Caldera (natural cliff), on Fira’s main walkway. The existing hotel, to be remodeled, a four storey building of the ‘60s was, architecturally, completely disrupting the surrounding traditional settlement. The design aims to restore this rupture, by transforming the building’s morphology, making reference to the old existing fortifications, the only traditional buildings of relevant scale.
The building’s initial full-length volume is carved out, removing pieces of significant size, breaking the complex’s block to three smaller volumes, of different earthly colors from the local palette.Openings’ placement with a morphological randomness, aim to the creation of a more natural effect, congenital to the prosthetic principles of traditional Cycladic Architecture.Slanting surfaces around the openings, free the views from the interior spaces, offerings glimpses to the volcano.
