Amalen Suites

Rethymno

Αmalen is located in an existing 19th century Turkish stone building in the old town of Rethymno. The aim was to keep the character of the existing building but at the same time to create five special suites with all modern comforts. The existing building was reused.

The stone element was empasized and the whole stone of the building remained with some reinforcements for static reasons, which we tried not to affect the style. In order not to spoil the style, all the mechanical and electrical components (air conditioning, lighting) were hidden in the walls and on the floor.

On the plot right next to the building, instead of creating a room building, it was chosen to design a stone “carcass” with water as the dominant element, which would also form the hotel's shared swimming pool and create a feeling of an oasis in the old city. The connection of the two stone buildings is done by a staircase made of uncoated concrete so as to unite the old with the new.
