The restaurant is one more building that functions like a machine. Function and senses should constantly interact, without any of these two prevailing over the other.

The ‘Koukounari’’ restaurant is located in the side road of Mesogeion Avenue,   a setting both crowded and congested.

The interior – the main zone and the helping rooms– spans into two levels, while the dining room evolves both indoors and outdoors.

During the architectural design there had been some basic designing objectives such as:

— Tracking the location and marking off the restaurant.

—  The   dissolution of the boundaries  between the public and private.

—  The  clear  flow and the smooth transitions, the escalation and the successive disclosure.

— The  versatility of the entire dining area or just of a part during day and according to season.

—  The  maximum eye contact with the magnificent culinary operations.

— The disclosure of the helping rooms of the restaurant and their functional and aesthetic collaboration. Hence, their processing is of equal importance.

—  The choice of common materials without any particular processing, having as an objective to serve all functions individually.

 —  Creating and switching ‘filtering’ protection, visual, auditory, etc.

—  The processing of the scale through the segmentation of the premises and the   improvement of the geometric proportions of the building.

—  The visual diversity, minimizing the less ‘privileged positions’, while compounding all of these into a whole at the same time.

Bearing in mind all the above we tried constantly to reach two main goals: Namely, through the choice of all the building and structure operations we tried to achieve a seamless transition – the visitor’s from city center into the restaurant and on the other hand from the interior to the exterior surrounding place and vice versa. The degradation but also the strengthening- where it is essential- of the boundaries between the public and private area, the escalation and the revelation raise the interest and offer users stimulus alternations.

Thus, from the bigger scale up to the smaller one

the architecture of the project is called to serve the entire set of human feelings.
